I first have had trouble with my browser redirecting to bogus websites on both Google & Firefox. The system also ran super-slow. I scanned for malware using Spy Doctor, Malwarebytes, Super Spyware, Avira AntiVir - still had the problem. My computer seemed to behave worse after downloading these products (really slow, ad pop ups) - I removed Super Spyware, and the other products I mentioned are no longer on my desktop after I did a System Restore - I'm not sure if those are removed as well (I save them to my program files and I can't see them there anymore). I am also getting a blue screen that says, "The application failed to initialize properly." Another time it said something about hardware not being installed properly (sorry, I didn't write it down word for word). I wonder if this has anything to do with me installing additional RAM yesterday? I was able to do all of the steps you suggested in the Preparation Guide, and the files are attached. Thanks for your time and help.

Thanks for your reply. I have run into another problem since my last post. I decided to reboot my OS - I figured that would take a lot less time than trying to pinpoint this virus. I soon found out that the recovery part of my hard drive is corrupted. It asks for my recovery cd's, which I inserted, but then it said they were incomplete. The computer company said that I should be able to recover the OS without a CD, but I followed their instructions, and I am still prompted to insert CD's. Then a couple of days ago, I was browsing the internet to see how I could fix this problem, and the McAffee logos turned black and my computer shut down. I am not able to get the computer running now - I have tried safe mode and still just a blue screen. The blue screen says to uninstall hardware. Is this the point of no return for us? Thankfully all of our files are backed up on an external hard drive and we have a 2nd computer. Do you think the external hard drive might have an infection as well?
