is it possible to take a photo of someone and turn it into a 3d animation, as though they are walking?

You need multiple frames to make an animation. Using a single photo to make an animation is possible, if you can manipulate that photo to all the posistions needed.

To say its possible from a single photo though is misleading in a way, because it takes a professional to really get that done. You pretty much needed a camera that would take the animation.

Short answer- No, you can't take a photo and make an animation out of it.

It can be done with Photoshop, but you would have to be very experienced.

Not worth the effort.IMO.

The most efficient way is to take a snapshot of the 4 sides of the head then use 3d software like 3DS max to give it 3d dimensions

Your other option is google 3d head animation, there are templates out there of pre-made "heads", all you would need to do is add the face to the other dimensions of the head

Hello.

Using Photoshop, just one photo would be a hair pulling, teeth gnashing, nail biting, eye pulling out, head bashing on desk procedure. It would require you to select the legs using the selection brush, and rotating it a little bit. Though it doesn't sound bad, you still have to fill in the blank space you created from moving the leg, which would be very strenuous. Taking more than one photo and turning it into an animation would still be hard, but much easier than working with just one photo.

Hey, I'm an animator.

Short answer: Yes. It's possible to take a portrait photo and texture map it onto the head of a 3D model, which could then be animated walking.

If you want quality of any sort, take two high quality photos: Front view and Profile, just like a prison mugshot. This will allow the 3D modeler to get the face right.

If you want a fast and cheap animation, I suggest 2D, using Flash or some such. It will look like JibJab political cartoons, with flapping heads.
