I reformatted my laptop and been having to download my drivers manually. Everything is working so far but I was told to make sure I download the correct bios and chip-set driver. I think I got everything except that. I know to go to the hp website and it list all my drivers for my laptop but I know I don't need them all and don't know how to figure out what I need. Is there something you can run and it will tell you what you need? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! My laptop is a HP Compaq nc8000 business notebook. Running Windows XP Professional.

If you scroll down to the Operating System - Enhancements and QFEs section here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechS...mp;swEnvOID=228

you'll find the chipset driver installer.

I wouldn't suggest updating the BIOS unless you have a specific problem that it may solve.

Is there any problem with your system? The need for driver updates is overstated, and driver "finders" basically want to charge you for finding free stuff.

Video drivers are the main ones that benefit from updates, and much of the updating they get relates to video games. Also, often development has ceased for older devices, and the last stable drivers that were released are all that is available or required. I've had no call to update drivers in my two computers for two to four years now.

I just wanted to make sure there all up to date. I reformatted and had to manually do them all. There is still 3 things in my device manager with the big yellow ? by them. I downloaded driver genius professional and scanned and it found 16 critical driver updates but wants me to buy a license to fix them. I thought there might be a way around buying it.

So have you downloaded & installed the drivers for the missing devices from the HP site?
