Hey all,
My son downloaded a roster update for his NHL 06 game. After he did so he thought he would open the file to view the roster. But as is normal the file has to be installed into the game to be of use. He did not know this. He used "open with" from the box. He selected note pad. Now because the little box was checked that reads " always use the selected program to open this type of file" that file extension only opens with note pad.
The file extension is .UPD (if it matters)
I've tried to re-download it to no avail.

How do I change it back so that the game can make use of the file?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

You can change them back the same way. Find one of the affected files, highlight it, hold down the shift key and right click the file. Select "open with". Scroll through the list of programs and find the one you want to associate the files with and select it making sure the same box is checked.

Failing that, uninstalling and reinstalling the program will take care of it.

Leurgy,
I tried what you suggested.
Problem is I do not know what opens it. It downloads as one of those "unknown" file types.
Then you paste it into your Program Files\EASPORTS\NHL06\NHL06
folder with your game info, and use the game to read and install the update.
I also un and re-installed the game.
I tried associating from within the game installation but nothing there works either.

When you do "open with" does the game program show up in there?

After you uninstall the game, make sure the folder is deleted from Program Files too or the file association may remain.

No the game program does not show.

I'll unistall again.... and track down the loose ends(I do not think I did so the last time) and give them the heave ho.
Re-install and download the updated roster and see what happens.
If it does not work.... he's going to be using old player data ... and he villll like it!

Thanks for the suggestions and your time,

Bob
