Hi,

I have just reformatted primary harddrive and installed all software again. I had no problems prior to formatting.

I am unable to send email via Outlook 2002 - i have a gmail account.

I am unable to send test email. Advises to verify email address which is correct.

Have followed the instructions in the following link - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/9557/outlook-2002-gmailunable-to-send-mail/

I am running XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.100216-1514: Service Pack 3)

Settings are :
Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com

Incoming Server: 995 - enabled "this server requires a secure connection"
Outgoing Server: 465 - Enabled "this server requires a secure connection"

Outgoing Server: enabled "my outgoing server requires authentication" - enabled " Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

I have tried turning off my firewall and also configuring it to allow outgoing mail. (Zonealarm)

I have gone to Windows Update site and downloaded all updates until exhausted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

What ServicePack are you running with Outlook?

Not XP

No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try.

Don't bother with the "Test" function in Outlook - it often fails for no particular reason.

Exit from Outlook, then make sure it isn't still running in the background. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL, go to the Processes tab, and kill any occurrences of OUTLOOK.EXE before launching Outlook again. (alternative method: in an empty space on the bottom task bar, RIGHT click, choose Task Manager)

Have you tried sending yourself a mail the normal way?

If you still get the error message, carefully check any places where you have to enter your email address. Make sure you have the correct punctuation (. instead of ,). Check spacing and spelling (youraddress@.wherever.com instead of youraddress@wherever .com) Also check spacing and punctuation in the server fields.

I once spent an hour trying to figure out why my email client wasn't working. Looked at everything dozens of times. I finally found it-.nte instead of .net. Sometimes it's the little things that trip us up.
