Hi, I feel like I've done all that I can do right now except check with you guys. A friend suggested this site, so I am all for it. I apologize in advance for the lack of organization here, and minimal information in areas.

I use a Windows Vista SP1. My problem started with a virus attack that I had this afternoon. I'm unsure of how I got the virus, but I do know that I haven't really been downloading anything the past few days, and what I have downloaded isn't anything what I'd deem suspicious.

Avira picked it up, but I failed to click "Ignore" in time, and the pop up disappeared. My internet connection went out. A bubble popped up on my taskbar saying (I apologize that it's not word-for-word because I honestly don't remember since I was panicking to stop what was started) that my computer has been infected with a virus, so I should install so-and-so. I, of course, ignored it and proceeded to run Avira and MalwareBytes, but the virus had disabled both. It then disabled most other programs I tried to start. A blue screen then popped up telling me that Windows had to shut down my computer in order to protect it. It shut down, then I attempted to enter Safe Mode... which the malware stopped me from doing. The only way I could start up my computer again was to do it in Normal Mode... which in the end led my friend (who uses this site) to being able to start Task Manager (which had also been disabled previously) and close any suspicious processes that were making this situation happen. This had to be done quickly, for failure to do so would have led to the same problems I had the first time (restarting, etc.). At last, Ii was able to run MalwareBytes (Quick Scan), then Avira (full scan), and finally ThreatFire (full scan). The malware was detected, and 5 different types of detections were found, quarantined, and deleted.

I still have problems, however. The iexplore.exe process keeps running with about 5 of the process running at the same time. Everytime I end the processes, they shortly come back. This is very problematic in that it eats up my CPU and shows indication that my computer isn't cured. I tried running Safe Mode, and the same problems as before arise. My Anti-virus software isn't picking up anything new, so I Googled around and found HijackThis. My log is below.

Before reading the logs, it should be noted that I was only able to get the the logs from DDS. There was no problem running RKUnhooker, but shortly after running it, my computer had the "blue screen of death" and restarted itself. It repeatedly did this, and it won't even let me get to the login screen because it restarts before it does. This happened a few times before, but it let me start up after accessing a restore point I created not too long ago. Now, it won't even let me use the restore point because when I access it, everything seems to work, but then the computer restarts like it does when not using the restore option. So unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'll be able to run RKUnhooker again unless my computer miraculously lets me start it again.

Thanks!

Good evening

So at this point you cannot log into windows at all?

Have you tried to boot into safe mode?

Boot into Safe Mode

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

If you still cannot log into windows in safe mode try to do last known good configuration in the safe mode menu
let me know the outcome

There's a problem in that when my computer starts to boot up, the only two options available are "Start Windows Normally" and "Launchup Repair" (or something like that), so it's impossible for me to start in safe mode. And before this problem existed, the Safe Mode option DID exist, but when I selected it, the same thing happened as when I select the normal startup option.

Thanks!

It actually does get me going, but inconsistently. When it does finally work to where I can start up my computer, it'll only stay on for about a maximum 2 hours before it just restarts again, leading to the same problems. sad.gif

2) Aside from Avira randomly popping up while ComboFix was running because it detected a threat, everything seemed to run smoothly.

3) The computer: well, so far, so good. It hasn't restarted.

I will let you know if any problems arise. If they do, I'm sure it will happen tonight.

Greetings

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

CODE
Folder::
c:\users\Cory Martin\AppData\Local\kjolwxvsp

DDS::
uInternet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5577

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"
    In your next post I need the following
    1. report from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now after running the script?

Gringo

I am posting this from another computer.

I started running the script, and everything was working fine. I fell asleep, and when I awoke, the computer was doing the same thing it was doing before: restarting itself repeatedly. So, I'm not sure if the script finished, and then it restarted or if it restarted while ComboFix was running.

I'm currently at the point where I'm waiting for it to magically start up normally. This could take a long time.

Hello Iceprism

something is very wronge with this computer and not just the malware issues there is something going on with the computer itself

Somebody needs to work on this computer from a hands on point of view where they can check the hardware and other things, I think it would be best if you took this computer into a shop and have them look at it.
