Hello, New to the forum and seeking help. I tried searching everywhere for help with this, but could not find anything. I will try to be as brief and include as much info as I can. I run windows XP SP2. I believe I clicked on a bad link and became infected with some kind of virus. My AVG popped up a "threat detected" warning, and I paniced and shut down the computer as fast as I could. When I restarted, I saw that my Internet explorer icon, as well as every icon on my desktop that uses IE to open, had turned white with what looks like the MS-DOS page with the 3 little colored icons. When I double click IE, the only thing it does is instantly adds another IE icon on my desktop? No hour glass or anything. It just keeps adding Icons. I have no pop ups, nothing running in the tray, no ads asking me to purchase anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've used this site in the past to successfully rid my system from the normal spy/adware problems, but this a new one. I ran a full scan with my AVG, but it did not find anything. I also ran MBAM in normal, and safe mode and it also did not find anything.
I hope I included enough info for someone to help me. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, i'd be greatly appreciative. Thank you, Neil.

Sorry I won't be helping, figured I'd post my thoughts anyway...

My AVG popped up a "threat detected" warning, and I paniced and shut down
You shouldn't have panicked.
Should have read up the security/threat alert and followed the recommended action to delete/quarantine the file.

I also ran MBAM in normal, and safe mode and it also did not find anything.
Did the safe mode show any signs of infection? anything abnormal at all?

You could try a 'System Restore', although traces of the infection may still remain.
