I am using a DELL Latitude 131L and recently on boot-up a message stating that the AC Adapter is not recognized. It then states that I can press any key to continue, or enter the BIOS screen.

This will only allow the laptop to run on AC power and will not charge the battery.

Not always having access to an outlet when needed, this is a big problem.

I am running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 5

Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried entering your BIOS to see if there is a setting related to the AC adapter charging the battery?

On the other hand, how old is the battery?

Not super experienced going into BIOS, but looked and did not see anything jump out.

The Battery is about a year old.

Sometimes the battery will charge, sometimes not. On startup, if the screen saying the adapter is not recognized does not appear, the battery will charge. Sometimes I will restart a dozen times and I will get the screen every time.
