Computer infected with Fraudpack trojan and Antivirus Suite rogue. Performed Malwarebytes quick scan. See log below.

Computer was unable to access the internet via Internet Explorer. Got the error 'Problem loading page. The connection to the server was reset'. Unable to access iTunes store. Unable to update podcasts, RSS feeds. Unable to play audio and video on some websites. Pictures do not appear on emails.

Used Firefox for several weeks to access internet. On 6/25 Firefox updated and is not also giving 'The connection to the server was reset' error. Now using Opera.

Please refrain from making any changes to your system (scanning or running other tools, updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might interfere with our fixes. In case of making changes I shall assume my assistance is not needed any more.

If the issue is not resolved please update me on the current condition of your computer.

Thanks for the reply. Assistance is needed! The condition of the computer is the same as in my June 27th post. I will refrain from making any changes while we work through the fixes that you recommend.

Let's try to take care of the connection issue and run comboFix.
  1. Reset the LAN settings:

    In Internet Explorer:

    Go to Tools => Internet Options => click on the Connections tab, then click on LAN Settings. The following items should be unchecked:
    • Automatically detect settings
    • Use a proxy server for your LAN

    In Firefox:

    Open Firefox. Go Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> click on the Network Tab, then click Settings.
    Select the radio button that says No Proxy. Click Ok.

  2. Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3

    * IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

    • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Information on A/V control HERE)
    • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

    When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please copy and paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

  1. Open a notepad (Start > Run and type in Notepad )

    Copy and paste the text in code box into it.

    • Save the file to the desktop as regfix.reg
    • Make sure the Save as type field says All files.
    • Locate regfix.reg on the desktop and double-click on it and confirm. It should look like
    • A window pops up asking if you are sure to add the file to the registry. Click Yes.
    • You get another window popup saying that regfix.reg successfully added to the registry.

    Note: You have to turn off any registry protector software you have in order the changes to be taken place.

  2. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system.
    Download JavaRa from Javara for Java update or directly from here.
    Use the tool to remove old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment. The latest version is Java 6 update 20. Please uninstall any remaining versions if the tool could not uninstall them (look for any entry on Add/Remove that contains Java, JRE or Java Run Time), they are:

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java™ 6 Update 13


  3. Run CCleaner (make sure under Windows tab all the boxes of Internet Explorer and Windows explorer are checked. Under System check Empty Recycle Bin and Temporary Files. Under Application tab all the boxes should be checked). Then click run cleaner.

  4. Go to start > Control Panel > internet options.
    • Under General tab press Delete... then make sure all the sections are checked and click Delete.
    • Under Advanced tab click Restore advanced settings
    • Make sure under Security tab the Default is selected.
    • Also under Privacy tab the Default is selected.

  5. Please check the issues and give me an update on those.

  1. It is important to uninstall ComboFix.

    Go to Start => Run => copy and paste next command in the field then hit enter:

    ComboFix /Uninstall

    This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

    It makes a clean Restore Point and clears all the old restore points in order to prevent possible reinfection from an old one through system restore.

  2. You may delete any tool or log we used from your computer.


Recommendations:
  1. I recommend using Site Advisor for safe surfing. It is a free extension both for Internet Explorer and Firefox. When you search a site it gives you an indication of how safe a site is.

  2. I recommend installing this small application for safe surfing: Javacools© SpywareBlaster
    SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer and Firefox settings and that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
    • Download and install it.
    • Update it manually by clicking on Updates in the left pane and then Check for Updates.
    • Then enable all the protections by clicking on Protection Status on the left pane. Then click on Enable All Protection.
    • The free version doesn't have an automatic update. Update it once in two or three weeks and enable all protection again.
