The computer is a Toshiba laptop with XP, it was infected with AV Anti virus ,I followed the removal instructions from this site and it appears to have gone, thanks, I subsequently found that the computer cannot access the Windows update site it is running IE8 and says"Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" I have tried to access it from the Security Centre and from within the Microsoft site , it has no problem going to any other Microsoft page, I have tried it in safe mode and with add-ons removed ,I installed Firefox ,it says nothing but does not go to the site, Firefox will go to other Microsoft sites with no problem , any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: Moved from XP to Am I Infected forum ~ Hamluis.

Hi .

What model Toshiba?

Can you access your installed AV program website for updates? Update your AV program from within XP?

Go Start/Run...type regedit. What happens?

Hello Louis,
Thanks for your reply, the computer is a Toshiba satellite A100, it has Microsoft Security Essentials I am unable to access the site, the first Google search found the site but selecting it took me to a totally unrelated site (furniture removals), the second attempt gave me the Internet explorer cannot etc.,it will not update from within XP. The registry editor appears to open OK.
Regards John.
