When I select Start - Run and type regedit...nothing happens. I have a HJT being evaluated but in the meantime does anybody have any ideas where I can start?

Try typing regedit32... see if that opens it

Does your system have problems running other executables?

You can also try the following:

1. Run Regedit from a DOS command prompt window.

2. Run Regedit in Safe Mode.

Thanks...but that didn't work.

I'm going to wait until I hear back from whoever looks at my HJT log before I go into SafeMode. I can't get a DOS window up.

Hi there,

In all liklihood...I assume you have malware on your system.....that it is the malware preventing you from uning Regedit...it is a classic symptom of malware and i hazard the problem will be solved once your HJT log is fixed.

Until that time though....you could use the (free) Registry Jumper 2.0....:

I hope that's of help

Hi tireddad

I would strongly recommend you following only the advice of the HJT team member you are working with. They are seeing the "big picture" of you computer issue and have specific plans that fix them. If we fix something small here, there may be a ripple effect into something you are trying to fix there. Let them know of you troubles running regedit, and they will lead you in the right direction.

Good luck!
