Hi,

I've been having a problem for about the past week or two that wheneve I click a link it will redirect me to a random webpage that I did not intend to go to or it will open Google or Yahoo! in another window. I googled the problem and it referred me to HijakThis, which then redirected me to this forum. I hope that you can help me to get rid of this problem, as I am not very technologically advanced and as I have also seen that the outlooks for some of the others on this forum with the same problem have been rather bleak. Anyway, here is the log info from the HijackThis scan:

Also, before using HijackThis I ran a quick scan with MalwareBytes, but that did not fix the problem. It did however detect about 370 malware infections that I had it remove.

Thanks Gringo. I didn't know if you guys had seen my post. Apologies to you and Budapest for the impatience and profanity. Also, I haven't ran any of them yet anyway, but when you say not to run any programs during the fix do you mean not to run any programs period until my problem is fixed or to just not run them while we are altering any settings? Could I still search the web and use iTunes when we aren't changing anything or is it for the entire time that I can't use them? Ok, here are the logs:

Greetings

but when you say not to run any programs during the fix do you mean not to run any programs period until my problem is fixed or to just not run them while we are altering any settings? Could I still search the web and use iTunes when we aren't changing anything or is it for the entire time that I can't use them when the scans are active don't do anything - when you are waiting for me you can do as you like but please don't install anything ( unless I ask you to ) untill we are done as it can confuse me if I see something new show up.

One or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkit

This could allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC could be compromised and there is no way to be sure that your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. "If you would like to continue, then follow the steps below, otherwise please let me know"

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?
