I have a dell computer with windows 7 32 bit installed. I can connect to the network Mutltifunction printer, scanner, copier, but I can only print. How do I go about getting to use the scanner capabilities. When I go to network in windows 7, it just sees the printer and uses the print driver.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,

Uhh...from my knowledge, I don't think you can scan using a network printer, only local (directly connected). But I suppose it depends on the hardware and software of the printer itself.

I'll try on my multi-function, and let you know what I find.

Nope, can't do it on my Canon MP190. It doesn't give me the option of choosing the scanner. It assumes it should be local and just fails.

Like I said, it depends on the specific printer.

It is an HP cm2320. I spoke with HP, but they wouldn't talk to me because it was after my "support" ran out.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechS...ng=en&cc=us <-- that is your printer correct? Do you get any error messages when you try to scan? Also are you using HP's drivers and/or software suite that came with it. The printer looks as though it should be able to scan over the network.

yes that is it. I am using the supplied drive for printing. I have the HP software installed, but when I try to scan, it says no twain devices installed. I haven't been able to get windows 7 to recognize "twain devices". How would I go about that. maybe I just need to specify the scanner's ip address (same as printer) with this scanner driver. I just can't find where to do it in windows 7 or hp's software.
