Virus changed my files extension?

A virus got a hold of my hard drive, and on the majority of my pictures, files and music it changed the extension to *.exe, so they cant be opened, when I try to change the file extension back to its original one, it tells me that its not possible that there is another file with that name and it doesn't let me overwrite it.

I have scanned the hard drive with malware-bytes and deleted 2 viruses that it found. but i still cant seem to be able to return everything back to normal
any help will be appreciated it.

I was told to run a hijackthis log tool that I wasn't able to find anywhere in the forum, I need help from you guys to guide me through the process..
I need to get this hard drive working, I have files in there that need to be worked on.

Thanks a million again

Hello all those bumps made it look like you were getting help.. We no longer use HJT that much, not reallyy effective anymore.

Please go here....
Preparation Guide ,do steps 6 - 9.

Create a DDS log and post it in the new topic explained in step 9,which is here Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs and not in this topic, thanks.
If Gmer won't run, skip it and move on.
Let me know if that went well.
