Spinrite maintainence?

I was wondering what your guys thoughts on spinrite was since I was thinking of possibly getting myself a copy.

The program can sometimes take weeks to complete.

I ran it on a relative's computer for three days; it just wouldn't move along, some drives are too far gone.

I have used Spinrite for several years now and it has saved my bacon a few times now.
