I recently had some viruses removed thanks to help I received in the forums ("Tidserv Request Problems"). Everything was working fine yesterday, but today while watching a clip through Comcast, an "autoplay" box popped up and my wife turned off the PC. Now when we try to restart, it gets past the XP loading screen, but then only displays a black screen. I added a new version of open office yesterday and there were a few windows updates last night. I am able to run in safe mode. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

<<...and my wife turned off the PC>>

If you mean that you did not shut down Windows properly...you probably damaged some system files required to boot successfully, akin to a power failure.

Try running chkdsk /r from the XP Recovery Console.
