I looked through the posts, FQ's, and tutorials first to see if I could find an answer to my problem. I bought a refurnished Compaq nc6220 laptop. With one exception, I've been happy with it. The laptop reads CD's and DVD's fine, but it won't save files to a disk. When I try, I get the following message:

The folder 'D:\'*' isn't accessable. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected by a password, or the filename contains a / or a \

Unfortunately, I purchased it in the southern part of the state and am now in the northern half. I know I should have checked this before I moved...buyer beware.
The computer is a Compaq nc6220 running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3, an Intel Pentium 1.6 gb chip, .99 gh ram, a Teac DV 18E drive and a IDE controller ATA storage.

I've gone to both Microsoft and Compaq and downloaded the most recent driver updates, but still I'm unable to transfer files to a disk. I've tried using both CD-R's and DVD's. Neither work.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Files cannot be "saved" to CD/DVD...they need to be written to such.

Saving files to a hard drive...results in the files being written in the chosen location.

The difference is that the system needs a program...in order to write files to a CD/DVD, while it automatically is configured to write to a hard drive. It sees the hard drive as a properly attached part of itself...while seeing a CD/DVD as something (temporary) that has been inserted in a part of itself and needs a program to process any data files to the media.

You cannot save to a "folder D:" because there isn't any such.
