I can't get avast! Antivirus to restart. This has happened to me before but I believe there's a larger threat to my system. Yesterday I scanned my system with Trend Micro's Housecall and it found the following virus: ROGUEAV_709. It was attached to file atiacm64.dll. Trend Micro cleaned the file and I moved on. My antivirus program was disabled prior to the repair. After the repair, I was able to use it again. Now I'm in that vunerable state again where it's disabled. At one time I was denied access to the internet.
When I attempted to restart the antivirus program via the Control Panel/Action Center program, when I tried to turn on avast! via this method, I received the following message: File System Shield provider not found.
What I don't understand is what would cause my antivirus program to stop working where I can't restart it again. Are virus programs that powerful where they can stop all types of services on a computer where the user becomes completely vunerable?
Plus I have a multitude of questions to ask as I investigate further.
Before I ask though, I ran a HijackThis and can post the saved file.
P.S. I just ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware program and it found nothing scanning 300,000+ objects on my system.
