MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit sp2

Started computer this morning it splashed a welcome screen as if I was using it for the first time.
But I have had it a couple of years.

IE all favorites gone, favorites bar empty
homepage was msn.com not the usual start page

desktop icons all gone except recycle bin and my docs

windows mail.. all mail gone, all contacts gone

edit: restarted twice same thing

went to work came home all was back in its rightful place.

Dunno what went down

I would be concerned that the profile is damaged.

I would create a new one/duplicate one...and that will give you two paths to access the system, if the profile is damaged and acts up again.

If the profile isn't damaged, you just have a backup entry that will eliminate damaged profile from consideration if it happens again.

I might also check Event Viewer for reported errors today.

Thanks for the input, that is an excellent idea.

I went ahead and backed all my docs favorites and mail etc... to an external drive.

I am gonna create another user like you suggest.

Reviewing event viewer,.... will take awhile to decipher that.
