Merged 8 posts. Note that the log is complete but broken up as a strategy for Runster to get it posted in entirety. ~ OB

Can anyone help with this?

I was able to break up the post and found one line that caused the posting error... please see updates below.

Let's see if I can add the DDS file w/o the attachment...

Nope... IE errors out with a "connection" problem.

Maybe file is too big... trying smaller chunks:

Now see if Attach.txt will upload...

To my untrained eye, it looks like a lot of Javascript security changes that pretty much opened my computer to further attack...

Hello Gringo,
Thanks for the fast response.
I had to run the Unhooker twice. The first time my computer rebooted while it was scanning the files starting with the letter "U". I remember seeing USB. Once my computer was back I ran it again... Here is the output... EXCEPT the onscreen text had POSSIBLE ROOTKIT ACTIVITY DETECTED at the bottom, but this text didn't carry over to the report it exported as shown below.

Greetings

One or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkit

This could allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC could be compromised and there is no way to be sure that your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. "If you would like to continue, then follow the steps below, otherwise please let me know"

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

Greetings Runster

Oh, and should I still do the manual install of the recovery console? be connected to internet and it will be installed this time

It also took hitting repair a few times to get my internet connection back online. if this happens again try rebooting the computer - but should not happen again

And is this line you guys being funny or something really unusual: Restored copy from - Kitty had a snack yes and no - mainly it is for us to know it was fixed but not letting the bad guys know how

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

CODE
Driver::
adxapie
Algvcsrk
Aniipeumrikt
Cdasrv4hnprs
Nwsvcmpuice
Vgmapieic_l
Wivewnt
Inpddd
Stre10unr
Usboruticmt
Vgndr2ctsdgp

DDS::
Trusted Zone: aol.com\free
Trusted Zone: intuit.com\ttlc
Trusted Zone: turbotax.com

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

NOTE**
  • When ComboFix finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will upload files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. report from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now after running the script?

Gringo

Below is the combofix post.

Also, Norton AntiVirus came up with this warning: Backdoor.Tidserv!inf detected. It says I need to manually remove it.
I haven't done anything to act on this message. Awiting your further instructions. Which are much appreciated by the way.

It didn't say...
I'm running a full scan now to see if it finds it again. The quick scan did not show it. only one tracking cookie came up. I hope it's not in hiding again...

I found it in the HISTORY of Norton... It says Affected area
1 File
1 Browser Cache

Under Details it says:
c:\system volume information\_restore{d08eaa53-190b-4cc4-a692-fd3452d7bf7f}\rp682\a0105460.sys

However, running Norton System Scan hasn't found it yet. Probably be another couple hours to finish the full scan.

Below is the mbam log. The eset is still running... Been running for 2hr 15 min and about 30% complete.
Found 2 infected files so far.

Problems so far:
After TFC, the computer hung on the "Windows Shutting Down" Splash screen. After about 5 minutes or so I hit the hard reset button.
Tried to access the Malwarebytes link from MS Word and got a "Security Violation" error. I had to reload the response from you in IE to get a working link.

I'll post the ESET when it finishes.
