Hi,

I have a laptop that I have not used in the past few months. It is a compaq with windows xp OS. I used to have no problem hooking up to any wireless device. However, I tried linking to a router in my house and it says that I am connected with an excellent signal, but when I open IE it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I would deeply appreciate any help as I've been futzing around with it for a few hours with no success.

Thanks,

Mark

Did you try wired connection?
Did you try another browser?

I did try a wired connection, but the same thing happened. I only have internet explorer downloaded on the laptop, so I did not try another browser. How would I download another browser without having connection?

Let's check something first...

1. Click Start>Run (Start>"Start search" in Vista).

2. Type in (or copy and paste):

cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$&notepad %temp%\$.$

and press Enter.

3. Notepad will open.

4. Copy all text in Notepad ([Ctrl-A], then [Ctrl-C]), and then post it (paste = [Ctrl-V]) in your next reply.

Run the above while wireless and try also while wired.

You do have connection.
For some reasons, your browsers don't work.

With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. I would like you to start a new thread and post a DDS log HERE and include a link to this thread. Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!
