Well my Kaspersky Internet Security program came with a free install of Avanquest System Essentials and in using it start up menu options were optimized and now I no longer receive the Windows camera and scanner wizard when I plug in either of my Olympus cameras to download pictures to my computer. I know it has to be an item in the registry which was edited in the optimization process. I have uninstalled the Avanquest program but I would like to restore the system to the point before the install of Avanquest's program and system restore is not able to do so.

Depending on your system and what disks you have...running either the sfc /scannow command or doing a repair install of XP...will replace any missing or damaged system files.

If you are asking how to restore registry files to what they were before...unless you know (for sure) that a specific registry file is involved, I would not suggest that route.
