Good Morning. Microsoft Software Removal Tool ran the other night, and when I got up, it told me that it had partially removed an Alureon.H. virus, which I would need to remove with Antivirus software. None of my other AV software picked up a thing. Avast/Norton360/Malwarebytes - nada. But I had noticed some symptoms previously, like occasional redirects and internet blocking, which told me I had picked something up. God only knows when, or how long its been nesting on my computer. Everything I've read about Alureon indicates it's bad mojo, and that normal AV software won't help - I need bigger guns.

I've followed all of the advice on your prep guides, run the requested programs, downloaded all of the typical tools you use. I should be ready when you are.

Below is the DDS.txt. The Attach Log has been attached. The GMER ark.log was too large to attach (933k v a 512k limit). If there is an alternate method of submission, or if you'd like it imbedded into the body of the message, please let me know.

Looking forward to your assistance.

thx - Jeslik

Gringo -

thx for helping. Really - I'd hate to have to do this solo without really having a clue what I was doing.

Here's the RKunhook report you requested. Looks ugly, at a glance.

4.Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
- Other symptom - Computer constantly tries to reach out to one of 4 or 5 different IP addresses, When I'm online, I have MalwareBytes active, and it's been stopping the outgoing connection. Assume it's related to current infestation. (I went offline and turned off AV protection prior to running everything, and restarted prior to going back online).

Greetings

One or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkit

This could allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC could be compromised and there is no way to be sure that your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. "If you would like to continue, then follow the steps below, otherwise please let me know"

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

Gringo.

I went with the reformat; I'm still working through that but it seemed like the right answer. Appreciate your help. I think I'll be resolved if I can get reconnected to the web.
