Hi guys. I want to apologize in advance for grammar mistakes and say a big thank you to all who are going to help me with my problem. Today I started my PC, opened Firefox (OS: Windows 7 Ultimate) and suddenly a popup from my antivirus (AVG) tells me that I've been infected. The virus file seems to recreate everytime I delete it, file path is C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Windows Server\mvpclz.dll

I personally tried to google that name with poor results. Showed up with a few registry keys created and some of them deleted: this is what I've found on the threat:

QUOTE
Registry Modifications

* The following Registry Keys were created:
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls
o HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\wvtcmvpclz

* The newly created Registry Values are:
o [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls]
+ AppSecDll = "%AppData%\Windows Server\mvpclz.dll"
o [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls]
+ AppSecDll = "%AppData%\Windows Server\mvpclz.dll"
o [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\wvtcmvpclz]
+ wvtcmvpclz = E8 00 00 00 00 5B 81 EB 05 10 00 10 BA 96 22 B6 00 51 B9 16 60 00 00 8D 3D D1 10 00 10 03 FB 30 17 83 C7 01 E2 F9 50 53 E8 0B 00 00 00 5B 5A 59 51 52 E8 20 5F 00 00 C3 55 8B EC 83 C4 FC BE 00 10 00 10 03 F3 89 75 FC BF E7 70 00 10 03 FB 83 C7 04 EB 4

* The following Registry Value was deleted:
o [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore]
+ DisableSR = 0x00000001

I suddenly tried to delete those entries (with proper backups) and to recreate the Deleted Entry, but nothing useful. The malware recreates even those entries in the registry. I'm quite familiar with RegSeeker, HijackThis but I knew none of the programs you mentioned in the Preparation topic. Also, I have to say that GMER is not running on my computer, shows an error like this:

QUOTE
C:\Windows\system32\config\system: Impossibile trovare il file specificato

(Which means in Italian "file not found" "Impossible to find specified file")

So I can't attach the GMER logfile...

Here's the DDS log:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode.
regards,
schrauber

Thanks a lot for the reply, I understand that you guys are busy with help requests and other matters, so it's fine, you don't need to apologize smile.gif

By the way, I managed to solve my problem with the Trojan, I'll gladly write here the simple process, which basically consists in deleting and creating some registry keys.

Step 1: Create this registry value with regedit.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore: DisableSR = 0x00000001

Step 2: Delete these registry keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\wvtcmvpclz

Then Reboot. If necessary, after reboot, re-delete the 3 keys created by the malware. An AVG scan showed no threats after this process, also no issues similar to the ones presented in my first post appeared.

Thanks anyway for reply, I will gladly ask again here if I have other issues with my PCs. Sorry if I wasted your time ;)
