HELP! My computer keeps trying to access my CD Drive. It keeps whirling away even though there is no disk inside.

The only way I can get the drive open is by using a paperclip in the little hole in front.

I have tried putting a disk in and accessing it. No luck. When I doubl;e click the drive icon, I get a "please insert a disk" message.

Its driving me nuts. Its a Sony DVD ROM drive it that helps.

Tnanks for any help you can give.

When you reboot the computer go into the BIOS and see if the drive is showing up. If it is go the the device manger and see if it is listed there. If it is not in the BIOS make sure the Secondary Master is set to AUTO, reboot and see if it re-appears.
And it is very possible it just died. How old is the drive?
