I'm running Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP Home Edition.

It used to load OK, although it was never sparklingly fast. Lately it has slowed dramatically and takes a minute or sometimes 2 to load up. I've tried clearing the cache, but it made no difference. Once it is loaded it is OK.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions about what might be the problem.

Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same thing?

First of all, uninstall all those old Java versions.
Update your Java: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Thanks. Ive done as you say. I also uninstalled the dictionary and Forecastfox. It is now taking about 20 seconds to load. Do I take that is OK? It's a fairly old laptop I'm using - about 5 years old.
