IPhone data usage with email

It depends on how many emails he gets and has to download. Also it depends on how big each email is.
If I have replied to a topic and you reply and I haven't gotten back to you within 48 hours (2 days) then send me a P.M.

OK, i wan not clear in my orig post.

He is just checking for email, with nothing new coming in.

We got all the email, cleared the usage stats then he just checked his email. Nothing new came in, and it used 800k of data.

He went to the apple store today, and they couldnt figure it out, swapped his phone with a new one and it was still using the same high data count
