On viewing the task manager multiple Internet Explorers are running and "end task" spawns more.

Windows XP
Version 2002
SP 3

McAfee Ent 8.5 was found unexplainably disabled, problem appeared shortly after.

Ad-Aware found three objects and removed, but problem with multiple sessions persists.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying...that IE has no windows open...to explain these multiple instances?

If I have one window open (like now), I always reflect two instances of IE in processes running.

Thanks Louis,

Right now here is how it seems:

If you open IE it will look normal.

If you Google something, it responds and the links seem to go to the intended destinations.

However, checking the task manager you will see 3 or more additional IEs running in the background -- no visible windows.

When you "end task" on any of these, several more are spawned until the entire task manager window is filled-- with IEs of various memory allocation.

You would not know this was going on except for unexplained alert boxes opening that are not associated with the visible page. Some times a script error will be reported pertaining to the background processes.

If you close your current IE, the window closes normally but the background IEs continue, as shown by the task manger.

Also, McAfee is very busy now that it has been turned on.
