I have no clue if I am doing this right. I was told to ask for help? from a helper?

I have the stupid search engine redirect virus.

There were a specific set of instructions that said not to use combofix unless a helper were present, that same set of instructions were laid out in a way that I was supposed to follow them as I read them. Anyways, I didn't do anything except print the instructions and download combofix to my desktop. I stopped there because it's better to be safe than sorry! Somebody please tell me what I need to do next. I have about 30 hours before I go out of town (returning on Mon. 14) and I would like to be at least set-up by doing everything I can, that way if I have to wait to speak with a helper til then I will be ready to go. I have read the the guides and believe I should stop where I am at right now. If not someone please tell me, whats next.

I have tried: malwarebytes, stupid mcafee crapafee, viprerescue. They all found a trojan or two at first but that was it. None of them fixed the problem as I didn't think they would. Viprerescue found "weatherbug". Didn't think this was the problem and vipre rescue didn't remove it anyway, just found it. I read in a forum search result that I needed to delete the "host" file in the drivers folder. Didn't feel right doing it but I was mad, felt desperate and everyone in the forum seemed to have success with it, but not me. My browser (ie. and ff) are now starting to open extra tabs out of no where.

I really appreciate the help and will gladly donate if this works. I joined a forum once before and the other users ("the regulars") talked to me like everything I said was a problem for them to hear or like I should know everything they know, because after all, we all share the same brain right?

Thanks to whoever is going to reply to this for the time and help.

Chuck

Hello,

I'm deleting your duplicate topic.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Hello,

Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/324206/redirect-response-response/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.
