Im trying to install Xp 64bit Beta and well I cant because I cant make XP sp2 to show the other partion. I have a 160gb hard drive. I got it to show the partion in disk management by installing sp2(thanks leurgy for that tip lol) but it wont show in My computer.

I spent 30 hours downloading XP 64bit on dial up and really want to test it!!

What should I do? I read about LBA 48 bit support but im worried it may mess my XP sp2 system up. Will it work with SP2?

Thanks

Can you see it in disk management?

Admin tools
Comp Management
Disk Management

Is the partition shown there? Is there a drive letter assigned?

Do you have a 64 bit processor and a motherboard capable of handling it?

From Microsoft:

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to work with 64-bit processors from AMD and Intel that support the x64 extensions to the x86 architecture. These include the Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Mobile Athlon 64, Turion 64, and Opteron processors from AMD, and the Xeon with EM64T and Pentium 4 with EM64T from Intel.

Q Can I run Windows XP Professional X64 Edition on my Itanium Workstation?
A. No. The Itanium processor is a 64-bit processor that has a different architecture than the x64 processors. A version of Windows XP for the Itanium processor is no longer available. Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition continues to support the Itanium processor.

Q. Can I run Windows XP Professional X64 Edition on my Centrino laptop?
A. No, the Pentium M series of processors used in Centrino laptops are not 64-bit processors and can not use the x64 Edition of Windows XP Professional. There are x64-compatible laptops currently shipping that are based on AMD processors.

Well when I built this pc a few months ago I put in a AMD 3200 64 bit with 2000fsb...

I can see it in disk management and its next to the main partition drive c.
Its not labled with any number nor does it show if it NTFS.
It just says free space and has a light green border.

There is no formatt there riverrat. When I right click I get delete, help or new logical drive. Now on the main partition I can hit formatt or there are more options but its greyed out on the main partition.

Select New Logical Drive then you should get am option as to how big you want it select the size in MB's then Ok.
After you create the size then you can right click it and format.

Thanks I may have fixed it on my own lol.

I went and deleted it. Leurgy told me to make it a extra partion and not a main partion and thats what made it not show up in my computer.

I deleted it and made a new one. I formatted it to NTFS and set it as a main partion and not just free space.

Im going to see if XP pro 64bit will install now. I will report back soon.
Thanks
