I knew this would eventually happen, but I didn't think it would be this much of a drag to fix.

I typically use Avira, and last week it found an infection. It happened while I was surfing and reading a blog. I'm not sure if I got the virus from there or if that was just when it activated. I highly suspect it was more related to my son downloading and installing free games--or maybe it was both. There was a free games toolbar that I think started the infection and just kind of started the party so to speak. It was able to re-activate itself, I think, so the toolbar would show randomly. I thought my son was just reloading it, but it finally happened when I was using the PC. I think it was called Oryte something or other.

I've used Ad Aware, Malware Bytes, (obviously) Avira, and House Call. They each found different things. I've run all but House Call in safe mode.

I still have a redirect virus, but it's not as annoying as it once was. Instead of hijacking my search results and preventing me from going to the site, it now allows me to go into the main site and later will open a new browser window with the spam links.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
