Unable to boot using bootable cd

I am unable to boot from the cd-rom reader on an HP omnibook running XP home SP1.

The bootable XP install cd I use works perfectly on my pc.

Messages displayed :

Checking Boot CD-Rom
Boot CD-Rom type : Non-emulation booting
CDBOOT : couldn’t find NTLDR

Laptop boots normally from hard disk. There is no virus on the boot sector. Do I have a corrupt MBR?

Is the XP disk OEM, retail, or a HP restore disk?
