It's that time of year again

What links, apps and advice do you recommend?

Set up a private Facebook Group or blog for family/friends to share info. Make sure you have someone out of hurricane zones to admin the group. They're great for letting the proper people know what is going on. Make sure it's private or you might as well put up a "Loot Me!" sign in your front yard.

Would love a list of Free Hardened Wifi locations (as soon as the storm is over they turn on the generator and aim the dish). People can drive up / power up the laptop and empty their outbox.

I guess living in Florida we're kinda lucky. We can see a storm coming and get ready. I would go nuts living in earthquake country with no warning...

It's that time of year all year. Who needs warning when you're prepared everyday. :flowers:

I would be terrified of an after dark or later visit from an F5. No thanks!

I would recommend our SC Emergency Management Division Guide.

Hope this helps...

They don't blow up over night. When one is coming, LEAVE.

My dad was a hurricane hunter for 10 years or so for the Air Force. He flew into them all the time to drop the gadgets they use to collect the data on them. When one headed our way, we left. I still remember Camille and those idiots who threw a hurricane watching party to watch it. I don't think they even found the bodies...........

Our Camile was Hugo. I live near Charlotte NC - well away from the coast. The eye of Hugo passed 10 miles from my house with wind speeds of 90 MPH. Needless to say, we know what a hurricane feels like now.
