I recently ran Windows update on my laptop and PC and now both machines do not display the Welcome Page after booting up, only the classic username / password box.

The option 'Use the Welcome Screen' is selected in User Accounts. Even if I deselect this option, reboot, then reselct this option then reboot, there is no Welcome screen - on both machines.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi Cryptodan,

On the PC it is selected.

On the laptop it is greyed out, and a pop up tells me:

FAST USER SWITCHING CANNOT BE USED BECAUSE OFF LINE FILES IS CURRENTLY ENABLED. TO MAKE CHANGES TO OFF LINE FILES CLICK OK.

Would make sense if I knew what off-lines were.

Some extra info:

Just ran a program that checks if the correct GINA value is in the Registry. Correct one in use.

Can you state what service pack you are using by right clicking on "My Computer" and noting the Operating system.

Broni I had a look at that link you provided. Thanks anyway but all I could find was a set of instructions which told you how to select from welcome box to welcome screen. My original problem is I can go through the motions of selecting the welcome screen, but when I reboot it is always the welcome box.

I am running SP 3.

Now, I'm confused.

From what you said, I assumed, you have this:

The link I provided, shows you what to do to get welcome screen back, doesn't it?

I know how to select either the classic welcome (box) or the welcome screen. The prob is I go thru the motions and on reboot it is always 'classic'.
