I have Windows XP on my computer with Automatic Update running. When I am notified of an update waiting to be installed it fails to install. I get the following message:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available.

Inset the Microsoft XP Small Business disk and click ok."

When I close that window I get the following message:

"Update were unable to be successfully installed.
Office XP Service Pack 3"

This has been happening for some time now. I disabled Norton and AVG. Thank you for your help.

Are you running AVG and Norton simultaneously?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

If you insert your office xp disk it should automatically continue. Unfortunately office xp needs some source files to do updates, one of the nice additions to office 2003 was the ability to store the necessary file on ones hard drive so you don't have to do this.

To install SP3 without the original Office XP CD

When installing SP3, you may be prompted to insert one or more of your original Office XP CD-ROMs. If you do not have access to your original Office XP CD-ROM you can install Office XP SP3 Full File Version (58925 KB). Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation. Note: Some users will still be prompted for the original CD when using the Office XP SP3 Full File Version, depending on your installation of Office XP. For more information, please see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, (828451) OFFXP: Why Service Packs, Updates, and Security Patches May Require the Office XP CD-ROM.

See: Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Full version SP3 direct download.
