Greetings,

I cannot view any video files (no format so far that I have checked will work). The audio comes through crystal clear and 100%. The video will show as if it is playing (with a FPS rating) but it iwll only be a black & blank screen. I have tried many different programs such as WMP, Winamp, VLC.... no luck... all the same.

I am trying to figure what happened.

I noticed any flash videos (Youtube) will work just fine.

I tired installing K-lite codec with no success.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100
Windows XP Home

Please let me know what other info I can provide.

You could check Event Viewer...for errors which might assist in revealing problems.

How To Use Event Viewer - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/40108/how-to-use-event-viewer/

Run the DX troubleshooter?

Ok, I found a RoxLiveShare9 twice as "Attention" in the Event Viewer after a reboot. I don't like using Roxio for anything unless I have to. Here is what it says:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( RoxLiveShare9 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service stopped.

I didn't find anything Roxio in Add Remove programs.

I did find it in Program Files\Roxio but no Uninstall.

Any ideas? Do you think that Roxio thing could be an issue?

I've never seen an "attention" item in Event Viewer.

If it's not an error, ignore it. Errors are what irritates Windows.

As for programs installed...it's your system. I know what programs I have installed/uninstalled on mine, I cannot know what you have done.

Google Data.

Run "dxdiag" (without the quotes) to check the integrity of your DirectX installation.
(DX troubleshooter referred to by Louis).

I doubt if Roxio has anything to do with the problem. I had Roxio 9 (full version) for a long time
and never encountered any video problems.

Uninstall and reinstall latest video drivers.
Uninstall/Reinstall the full codec pack.

We all try to help, sometimes it takes a while to hit on the right solution.

Thank you. I did get a bit hot-headed there. I apologize.

I will give all of that a shot and report what I find out; however, I have un-installed and re-installed the video drivers and just re-installed the K-lite video pack but still have the same issue. Something tells me there are some settings in K-lite that I do not fully understand that could be a cause of the problem. My laptop is at home and I am not. When I get home, I will try it all again.

UPDATE:
Yesterday I found an amazing price on a 500GB 2.5" hard drive for my laptop (same laptop with the program). I used that drive to do a fresh install to see if it was hardware. No problems with the fresh install. It has to be software or settings or both.
