Recently, any device involving removable media will no longer work. For example, my external DVD drive or external SD card reader won't show up at all, neither will any media inserted into it. However, my Nintendo WiFi USB connector will work fine. I did not update any drivers or install any programs recently. There are no signs of anything in event viewer either.

It's an HP dx5150. It does seem that it only occurs with USB removable storage. But it can't be the USB ports themselves, as my nintendo Wifi USB still works.

Are the devices, when connected, properly reflected in Device Manager and My Computer?

Well that's...odd. My external DVD is now suddenly working again. All I did was turn off the computer for the night. I'll test my external card reader in a bit.
