Google redirect virus

I am running windows xp
SO i found that i had the google redirect virus downloaded AVG and didnt find the problem.
tried to delete the ip's from C:\\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts but they kept coming back
so i looked through a bunch of forums and they recommended combo fix
i thought it worked but then it came back
looked on more forums and they said hitman 3.5 worked as i downloaded it and clicked to run it an error came up "not a valid win32 application" so now i cant run any .exe files
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME I SWEAR IM GOING TO GO INSANE!!!!!!
