It appears to be going aournd. I search in Google and the links get me redirected to some other page which often spawns additional browser windows. Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, and Avira AV have not found anything that alters this behavior. I have also tried running IE without add-ons and have tried firefox as well. All have the same issue. I would certainly appreciate any help I can get on this. I am posting logs from DDS. GMER causes my computer to blue screen.

From DDS:

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

2. had a problem getting recovery console installed due to cd being SP1 and computer running SP3, but was able to get a SP3 CD. Other than that it seemed to run ok.

3. External USB keyboark and mouse is not working now. Touchpad is not working now. Not sure what else just yet. It is hard getting around with only the keyboard.

Greetings

:P2P Warning!:

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

Please note that as long as you are using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur
Once upon a time, P2P file sharing was fairly safe. That is no longer true. P2P programs form a direct conduit on to your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented and malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares on to your computer. Further to that, if your P2P program is not configured correctly, your computer may be sharing more files than you realise. There have been cases where people's passwords, address books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to a file sharing network by a badly configured program.

Please read these short reports on the dangers of peer-2-peer programs and file sharing.

please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

Your Java is out of date.

It can be updated by the Java control panel
  • click on Start-> Control Panel (Classic View)-> Java (looks like a coffee cup) -> Update Tab -> Update Now.
  • An update should begin;
  • follow the prompts

Clear your Java Cache
  • click on Start-> Control Panel (Classic View)-> Java (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
        Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Gringo, is there anything we can do to get the mouse working again first. These steps will be difficult to complete with only the keyboard. Right now device manager is showing bangs on the synaptics touch pad and on the USB hub. This happened after running combofix. So right now, I can only use the built in keyboard on the laptop. The touchpad and the external KB and mouse (connected to USB) are not working.

Thanks for help!!

When I run SystemLook, it is not repsonsive. I have tried using the Tab key to move around to where I can type, but nothing happens. Task Manager shows it as "running". Using the Alt key, I can access the File menu, selecting Load Script does not appear to do anything, Exit works though. Any suggestions?

That did not seem to do anything. Touchpad and USB Root Hub still have bangs in device manager.

Device status says: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).

When I look at the driver details of the touchpad, it appears to be pointing to right files.
The USB drivers being used are
c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbd.sys and usbhub.sys

Is there a way to tell from the logs what was changed by combofix that disabled these?

Lets see what combofix may have taken out

extra combofix report

I need to see one of the extra reports combofix makes
  • push the "windows key" + "R" (between the "Ctrl" button and "Alt" Button)
  • please copy and past the following into the box
CODE
C:\Qoobox\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt
  • click ok
  • copy and paste the report into this topic for me to review

Gringo

we may need to replace that file in safe mode lets see what this report says first

Ok, I got mouse and external kb working again. I uninstalled everything that had a bang, rescanned, and let windows find it again. That part is working fine now.

Also, search resutls from Google are no longer being redirected. :-)

Java is updated, Malwarebyets came back clean, ESET found 2 items:

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\kbdclass.sys.vir Win32/Olmarik.ZC trojan
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{AFDD5784-4FFA-413C-84B1-64EE165D77E0}\RP447\A0052821.sys Win32/Olmarik.ZC trojan

the summary shows 2 found, but 0 cleaned. Looks like one of these was already taken out by combofix and the other is part of a restore point maybe? It doesn't appear to give me an option to clean this.
