Noticed this on a few other posts - assuming it's the same thing.
I normally use Google for my searches or SwagBucks but only Google seems affected 99% of the time.
I click a result and am redirected to an ad site or sometimes redirected then immediately re-redirected to a different ad site.
RARELY will it load the actual result, forcing me to go to the link properties and C&P it to the address bar.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's other problems functioning in the background.
Already tried Spybot S&D as well as Avast Home Edition with no luck.

I'm using Windows Vista and browser is Firefox.
Someone recommended I use HijackThis but my knowledge stops just after creating the log as I'm not familiar with this part of computer repair or this program.

So anyways, here's the log - any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. smile.gif

Did a previous scan with version 2.0.2 - something I saw on that list then that I don't see now was called "gopher". Dunno if that's any useful info or not but hope it helps. Thanks. smile.gif

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.
1.Please do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
2.Please reply to this thread, do not start another!
3.Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
4.Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
5.Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

I would like to get a better look at your system, please do the following so I can get some more detailed logs.

DeFogger:
Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
    • The application window will appear
    • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
    • Click Yes to continue
    • A 'Finished!' message will appear
    • Click OK
    • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Download DDS:
Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

Download DDS and save it to your desktop

    Link1
    Link2
    Link3

Please disable any anti-malware program that will block scripts from running before running DDS.
    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
      • DDS.txt
      • Attach.txt
    • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
    • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
    • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

Gmer

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

information and logs:
In your next post I need the following
      1.logs from DDS
      2.log from GMER
3.let me know of any problems you may have had

Having some issues with this.
First program restarted my computer.
It loaded like normal. Don't know if there was supposed to be a report from it but if so, nothing came up. Assumed not so progressed to next step.

While performing next step computer just went blank and wouldn't turn on.
Sadly, this is fairly normal. Believe it's a hardware problem as it overheats relatively often during the summer months but fine other times.
Let it cool off then rebooted computer and tried again.

It worked.
Next step gave me this:

And the attached file.

While performing third task it progressed normally then suddenly the screen "freaked out", went blue with grey horizontal lines of varying lengths. After the screen went completely black (like shut downed black) it restarted itself.
Now here I am, not having tried GMER a second time.

Should I try again?

QUOTE
While performing next step computer just went blank and wouldn't turn on.
Sadly, this is fairly normal. Believe it's a hardware problem as it overheats relatively often during the summer months but fine other times.
Let it cool off then rebooted computer and tried again.
have you tried to clean the inside? I have to do mine every 6 months or it will give me fits

well when you have the report for me let me have it

Firefox downloaded RKUnHooker, tried double clicking it from the download menu and within 1-2 min the screen went completely black.
I assumed it was overheating again but this time I'm not entirely certain.
Let it cool down again just in case and just booted to PC again.
Tried to log into windows but it took longer.
An error saying something along the lines of winlogin has become corrupt.
Then in the bottom right of my task bar (near the time and other start up programs) a yellow triangle appeared several other times saying "*file* has become corrupt."

As I type this yet another notification, making at least 4 total all of which saying "...has become corrupt."
I assume one of those files was Firefox as I'm unable to launch it now and was forced to use Internet Explorer.
Isn't there a way to access all the errors? Tried double clicking that icon but the notice & icon just faded.
Wish I could be more specific but there were so many back to back errors in that corner that I wasn't able to get a screenshot.

let it cool down for a little while and try to log back in and let me know - do you have your install CD for windows, so we may be able to run scandisk?
