Hi there,
I have this problem with IE that when I open it, it evetually loads the correct homepage however it is slow and right before it loads it says: wating for about:blank..... I think I had the about blank virus before as well with Antispyware Soft virus, but Gringo, a Malware response member of bleepingcomputer helped me get rid off all the malware and spyware except we couldnt get rid of the actual problem with IE itself. He said all of the malware is gone and now it is a technical problem he thinks and said to post on this area for better technical help as he did everything to his knowledge. Here is the link to our other post and what we have done so far. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/318004/malware-aboutblank-virus-antispyware-soft/ . Hope this helps. The existing problem is that the aboutLblank is still affecting my IE yet all the spyware is said to be gone. Can you guys help me!?
Thanks, Adam

Do you have two antivirus programs installed? PC Tools and AVG?

If you are using 2 antivirus's they will conflict and that is what could be causing the issue...

If you are not, it would be worth doing safemode scans using malware bytes, but before you do so... Make you disable system restore.

You can do this by following these steps..

start > right click my computer > properties > system restore tab > untick the box to disable system restore > restart

FYI, re Malwarebytes

"MBAM works from safemode but it is not designed to work that way .
MBAM will work better from regular mode both in terms of what it detects and what it can remove .
Doing a safemode scan with MBAM should only be done when a regular mode scan fails .

"quietman7
MBAM is designed to be at full power when malware is running
so safe mode is not necessary when using it."

First thing I would do is open IE go to tools, internet options, advanced and reset IE.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

I have AVG as my anti virus and PC tools is spyware doctor which is my spyware scanner, so that cant be the issue. I have tried scanning malware bytes in safe mode with no result, however i did not turn off system restore....would that have an effect?? And for the IE reset, I have did that to regain my homepage and did it numerous times again however, still no success. Im stumped??

Hmm.

I've been reading your other topic and see that you've tried running the browser without add-ons and the problem still occurs.

Your helper there did want you to post back with the link to this topic, so please be sure that you do so.

You've tried resetting it and that doesn't work either.

MBAM comes up clean.

Let's try something a bit more drastic. Uninstall IE8 then reinstall it and see if that resolves the problem.

Note: I am shifting this topic to the VISTA forum as I see that your operating system is VISTA and not Windows XP. ~ OB

Well, when I unistalled it, it went back to IE 7 which had no about:blank, then it told me to update back to IE 8 which I did and as soon as I loaded it up, waiting for about:blank has returned.......It has something to do with IE 8 or its settings, because when I started IE 7 it worked flawlessy.....UGH

You have quite a few anti-spyware/malware programs on that machine!

I would suggest that you uninstall these:
IObit
SITEguard
STOPzilla (See instructions below)
http://www.ehow.com/how_5043148_remove-stopzilla.html

c:\program files\AA Antimalware <--- do you recognize this? Uninstall it and delete the folder.

Delete these folders too:
c:\progra~2\SITEguard
c:\program files\Common Files\iS3
c:\progra~2\STOPzilla!

Along with AVG's 'LinkScanner', they're sure to be slowing your browsing down!

Next, flush your DNS cache and Restore Microsoft's Hosts file
Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Right click on the .bat file, choose to run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

Let us know if you're still getting About:Blank.

Yes i did download adaware away and unistalled it, as with stopzilla, and all the others you mentioned. I did the flush and rebooted and yet it is still there. This thing is dreaded with IE 8.
