Hi all this is my first post.I have a spare laptop which was working well until yesterday. When I switched it on today windows would not load,I tried to start in safe mode but could not, infact it will not start in last known configeration etc.I now have the blue screen with the message unmountable boot volume.

The laptop came with Windows XP installed so I do not have the disc to do a repair or boot to disc.

Any ideas would be most welcome

Well IMO, if its a spare laptop then i would just boot from the XP cd and do a fresh install.

Run the chkdsk /r command, as suggested in the link provided. This normally overcomes that error.

You followed the instructions provided...for converting an .iso image to a bootable CD?

They are not the same as "copying". The .iso file must be converted using a program designed to produce bootable CDs from .iso files.

<<I tried to start in safe mode but could not, infact it will not start in last known configeration etc.>>

That's from your initial post....hence, I don't understand why you are asking how to get into safe mode...since you've already tried that.
