Trying to Remove Norton Anti Virus 2004

I have been trying to remove Norton Anti Virus 2004 for about three weeks and keep getting stalled by a window which tells me either an instal ot unstal has been completed and I should go to restart and then setup.This is creating havoc with my new programme Avast.Can anybody help.

Assuming using Add/Remove programs is not working, Symantec has a removal tool. Info at
