Hello guys. I am new to fighting spy ware and malware and I wanted to see if anybody could explain the difference between OTL and DDS?

I know with OTL you can put in custom scans. But I am not sure why one is preferred vs the other if that makes any sense? I work for a company in Texas and everyday we deal with removing spyware and this site has been a TREMENDOUS help to me.

Welcome to BC putnum

OTL and DDS are advanced tools designed to help diagnose the presence of undetected malware. Each are intended by their creators to assist malware removal experts who have graduated from Unite Schools with investigating and identifying system infection.

Since HijackThis only scans certain areas of a computer's system/registry it is limited in its ability to detect infection and generate a report outside known hiding places. As such, HijackThis has been replaced by other preferred tools which provide comprehensive logs with specific details about more areas of a computer's system and registry keys. As with HijackThis, these tools rely on trained experts to interpret the log entries, determine what needs to be fixed and plan a strategy for disinfection.

Discussions pertaining to how OTL and DDS specifically work, what they can or cannot do, what the log results mean, any future plans, etc. is not available to the public in order to safeguard and protect the integrity of such tools from malware writers. Since the developers do not want the inner workings of their tools discussed outside of private forums, we cannot answer specific questions.

If you are interested in pursing training where the use of these and other tools are taught, I can provide that information upon request.
