remove icons in control panel

how do you remove the icons there are some that dont do anything and i just want to remove them

As far as i know you cannot remove icons from the control panel ...i could be wrong?..

There's plenty of ways to do it - but please provide the reason why if you'd like a well- thought out and reasoned answer. (There's different approaches for each of the different uses).

This is a dangerous thing to do, and you could end up with a system that doesn't work because of it.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Try the trial version of X-Setup - it'll allow you to remove or hide that stuff. It's available here: http://www.x-setup.net/

Tweak UI does this. I don't know if it will work in XP, but I don't see why it wouldn't.
