XP home:- my screen is flooded with symantec pop ups

Hi all,

I have been having a major headache with numerous pop ups filling my screen from symantec stating 'scanning message 1 of 1' as soon as i connect to the internet.

I have tried malwarebytes anti-malware in conjunction with prevx3.0. I have run scans many times and currently prevx shows as clean and malwarebytes detects an infection but states it cannot remove it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
