Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

Hi-

Sorry for the delay. From what you have said, I think you are able to download software but just not update it.

If that is true, then -

Click on the Start button on the lower left of your screen. Click on Control Panel or click on Settings and then Control Panel. Select Add/Remove Programs. Find MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware in the list and click on Remove.

Now, please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) from HERE.

Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure there is no checkmark placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware but do check Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Note: If you are unable to get MBAM to run, download one of the following Rkill programs to your desktop, run it, and then try MBAM again. If you are unable run the Rkill you downloaded, download another one, and try it.
Rkill.exe
Rkill.com
Rkill.scr
Rkill.pif

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 or 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Next, try again to run DDS.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
In your reply, please give me a better idea of how your computer is running and copy in directly the MalwareBytes and DDS logs.

Thanks.

Hi i've followed your instructions and added the log from Malwarebytes below. Unfortunatly I have not been able to run the DDS program at all, it appears then disappears and then nothing, I've left it running over night and still nothing. I'm still unable to run any updates for anything.
This is what Malwarebytes says when I try to update: MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(12029,0, WinHttpSendRequest)

Many thanks

Hi-

Malwarebyes' Anti-Malware(MBAM) didn't show any problems. It is too bad DDS didn't complete but maybe we can get some system info using OTL. Also, I would like to see if you can update MBAM with your COMODO firewall and Defense+ disabled, and I would also like to see if you can update MBAM in Safe Mode with Networking.
  • Please download OTL from here:
  • Main Mirror
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Change the "Extra Registry" option to "Use SafeList"
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste in the contents of the CODE box.
    CODE
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\*.exe /s
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    symmpi.sys
    adp3132.sys
    ADVAPI32.dll
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
  • Push the button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them into your reply:
  • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
  • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized

Disable your COMODO firewall and Defense+ - Right-click on its tray icon and set Defense+ and Firewall to "disabled". Try to update MBAM.

If you still can't update MBAM, boot into Safe Mode with Network- This can be done by tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option with networking support.
Please see here for additional details.
Again, try to update MBAM.

Boot back into normal mode and right-click on the COMODO icon in the system tray and make sure your firewall and Defense+ are active.

In your reply, please copy into the reply the two logs from OTL and let me know how the MBAM update attempts went. Questions - Are you able to search the internet without being redirect to undesired sites? Are you having other problems with the computer that I should know about?

Hi-

Thanks for the log. Sorry to hear that Malwarebytes' Anti-malware will still not update. Let's try something else.

With your COMODO firewall and Defense+ disabled, try these quick steps to see if this is what is causing the error for you:

1. Click the 'Start' button.
2. Click on "Control Panel".
3. Double-click on "Internet Options" (you may have to switch the Control Panel to 'Classic' view to find it).
4. Click on the 'Connections' tab.
5. Click on the "LAN settings" button.
6. Put a check mark in the box labeled "Automatically detect settings".
7. Click OK.
8. Click OK.
9. Try the update again (you may need to close any open Internet Explorer Windows before trying), and, if it doesn't work, repeat your steps above, but make sure all three boxes are unchecked. Then, back out and try again.

Let me know how it does.

Yep, don't know what happened, I replied but it seams to have not saved.

The "Automatically detect settings" are already on & when i try it with out all three boxes are unchecked it still wont update.

cheers

Hi-

So where are we with your machine? It has been awhile. What can't it do and what is it doing that it should not be doing?

I'm currently unable to update some programs IE: COMODO firewall, Spyware blaster, malwarebytes, trojan killer, basically anything i have on my PC thats need updating. Even spotify has stopped. If i uninstall the above and try any other anti ware IE spybot, Ad Aware etc the same thing happens.
we have tried uninstalling and re installing but this has not helped, We have also tried the below and i'm still unable to update anything.

Hi-

Sorry for the delay!

Thanks for the information on your computer's status. I still think that you don't have a malware infection and would like to try something else.
I noticed that you have McAfee anti-virus installed and that you have the combined COMODO firewall and anti-virus installed and not just the firewall.

Since you haven't mentioned McAfee and it is not in the uninstall list, I assume that it is a leftover and needs to be removed from your system. If so,
  • Click on the following link to download the MCPR removal tool

    McAfee Uninstall download
  • Click Save and save the file to your desktop
  • Close all McAfee Application windows you may have open, and double-click on MCPR.exe to start the removal tool.
  • After the removal tool finishes, you should be prompted to restart your computer.
  • Once the computer restarts, your McAfee product should be uninstalled.
Since you should only have one anti-virus software package installed, you should either delete Avast (avast! Free Antivirus) or Comdo (COMODO Internet Security). Either can be removed by going to the control panel and selecting Add or Remove Programs. After the program list is populated, select the one to delete and click on the Change/Remove button.

Now, try once again to update Malwarebytes' Anti-malware and let me know what happens.

Thanks,

Shannon
