I need some ram. I can get the ram I need for a good price but the brand is Elpida (never heard of them) and they say made in Taiwan on them.

I wanted to get crucial ram but I looked on Newegg and they were $100 and not in stock. This would cost less than $70 but I want it to last forever and I would greatly appreciate an opinion from anyone who has experience with different brands of ram. Thanks.

ps. here is a picture:

I tend to purchase RAM by price, not brand...never had a problem with any of them (except a 1-time DOA package from Crucial, which was immediately RMA'd/exchanged). I don't believe in "name brand loyalties" of any sort.

Worth Reading, IMO.

I try not to let...what I don't know...guide me in my selections, since there is so much that I do not know and never will. I find that Google helps me to learn more than I would otherwise.

As for "made in Taiwan"....that phrase probably appears on any number of items you use every day happily.

Duly noted, that sucks about Crucial. My hard drive says made in Taiwan and is ok too so looks like I am going the cheap route. Thanks for the advice.

Most electoronics these days are made in Asisian countries, there is no getting around that.

I say go with price, not brand, I have bought most of my RAM according to what's on sale and cheap, I do not like mixing different brands on the same computer how-ever, this way I know the modules are some-what close to the same Manuf. specs.

But I have RAM from Crucial, K-Byte, PNY, kingston and some sticks that just say Malaysia on them made by who knows, but they work, that's the point.

So just go with what's cheap and save your self a few bucks.
