A friend has a problem with a Satellite Pro 6000 running Win 98. Every time it is shut down they get a BSOD with Fatal Exception OE occurred at 0028:c14785b6 in VXD CALL21 (01) + 000009D6. The numbers vary each shut down.
Has anyone any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi Couch Potato,

I couldn't find the exact cause for the error code you reported.

Did anything change? Hardware added - drivers/software loaded/unloaded?

I would do the basic scans. Virus, spyware, defragment the drive, scandisk, etc...
(There are links to free on-line virus scans and spyware software at the bottom of my post - If you need any instructions, just let me know)

After that, I would update my video/sound card software - www.toshiba.com - look under support and downloads.

Be sure to back up the files that are important!!!! If there is a problem coming, it is nice to have the important stuff safe - and it's a good practice anyways.

I hope this helps...

Thanks for that. We have tried most of that but no harm in trying again.

Try starting up in safe mode and seeing if the error still occurs during shutdown. What was you friend running prior to shutting down?

Thanks Rigel, I'll pass that on. Everything seemed to be running fine, just get this error when you shutdown. I think they are going to upgrade the OS.
