Hi there,

Yesterday, I was having problems with Anitvirus Soft. I followed the procedures outlined in http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...-antivirus-soft and it helped me get rid of it. THANK YOU!

Now, I'm having issues with google. When I search a topic on google and click on a link it provides on the results page, a random website that is marginally related to my topic loads. I try to click back and try the link again, but instead of showing me the google page with all the search results, nothing shows and it even says that it is "done" at the bottom of the internet window.

Also, if I keep my internet on for longer than 15 minutes, my computer freezes even if I'm in the middle of opening windows. When I try to go to my task manager to "end process", the task manager opens, but nothing happens.

In my task manager, I also see that there is an application named "LOL" that is constantly running. When I go to its processes, all of the image names end with .exe. Is this part of the problem too?

Can someone please help me step-by-step? I'm not computer literate. =/

Thank you!

Hello and welcome.

Next run ATF and SAS: If you cannot access Safe Mode, run in normal ,but let me know.

Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".

From your regular user account..
Download Attribune's ATF Cleaner and then SUPERAntiSpyware , Free Home Version. Save both to desktop ..
DO NOT run yet.
Open SUPER from icon and install and Update it
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining
.
Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. DO NOT run yet.

Now reboot into Safe Mode: How to enter safe mode(XP)
Using the F8 Method
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode
.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox or Opera browser click that browser at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program
.

NOW Scan with SUPER
Open from the desktop icon or the program Files list
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.
Click OK on the summary screen to quarantine all found items.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.

To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log.
A text file will open in your default text editor.
Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
Click Close to exit the program.

Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:

Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when done
click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

Please ask any needed questions, post logs and Let us know how the PC is running now.

I'm stuck because I can't seem to find the option to UPDATE Super AntiSpyware. When I right click it, my only options are:

Open
Run as
Scan with AVG Free
To Bluetooth
Pin to start menu
Scan with Malwarebytes
Send to
Cut
Copy
Create shortcut
Delete
Rename
Properties

Am I doing something wrong? I tried deleting it and re-installing it again with your link, but I still can't locate the "update". =(

When I double left click, its a security warning and it asks me if I want to RUN or CANCEL the installation.

The only two things I see on the bottom left is a click box to see "if I want to always ask before opening file" and "what's the risk" of running software.

There is no update option. =( A few people have looked at it for me too just so I can make sure I'm not just being stupid and blind....

I can only think it did not install properly. Is this XP or Vista?

For Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, and Windows Vista only

Follow these steps to use the Uninstaller Assistant:

1. Exit SUPERAntiSpyware.

To exit SUPERAntiSpyware, right-click the SUPERAntiSpyware system tray icon (the orange/brown bug running near your clock) and select "Exit" from the menu.

It is recommended that you close all other running applications before attempting to uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware.

2. Download and run the SUPERAntiSpyware Uninstaller Assistant:

Click here to download: SUPERAntiSpyware Uninstaller Assistant

3. Follow the instructions given by the Uninstaller Assistant.

reinstall from here... SUPERAntiSpyware FREE Edition Installer

Ok, it worked!

I had to do the SUPERAntiSpyware Scan a few times as the first time I did it, it took over two hours...and then my computer froze. I had to force restart the computer. The second time, I tried to keep the computer active so that it won't go into hibernate mode and never come back...and it took hours to scan but again, it never really finished.

The search engine redirects have disappeared. However, random websites still pop-up. Also, my touch pad is now unresponsive. If I plug a usb in for a portable mouse, the mouse works.

I will try a full complete scan on SUPERAntiSpyware again. I thought I would just post this for the time-being.

Thanks.

So when I start the computer, it goes to the Welcome page...and then the blue screen comes up and it says"

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

and it goes on and ends with:

"Technical information:

***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x000000F8, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x85554FB6)"

Do you have an XP CD?

Please run System File Checker sfc /scannow... For more information on this tool see How To Use Sfc.exe To Repair System Files

NOTE for Vista users..The command needs to be run from an elevated Command Prompt.
Click Start, type cmd into the Start/Search box,
right-click cmd.exe in the list above and select 'Run as Administrator'

You will need your operating system CD handy.

Open Windows Task Manager....by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC

Then click File.. then New Task(Run)

In the box that opens type sfc /scannow ......There is a space between c and /

Click OK
Let it run and insert the XP CD when asked.

Hi and welcome to the Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum,

I am thcbytes and I am here to help you!

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those I suggest to you while I am cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so I know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Please perform all steps in the order received and do not proceed if you need clarification.

Please copy and paste all logs into your post unless directed otherwise. Please do not re-run any programs I suggest. If you encounter problems please stop and tell me about it. When your computer is clean I will alert you of such. I will also provide you with detailed suggestions for prevention.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if your topic is not replied I we assume it has been abandoned and I will close it.

I would also like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please be courteous and appreciative for the assistance provided!

Again I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so. Your computer fix will be based on the current condition of your computer! Any changes might delay my ability to help you.

Hello,

IMPORTANT:
You will need a flash drive with a size of 512 Mb or bigger. Make sure that you do not leave anything important on the flash drive, as all data on it will be deleted during the following steps.
    • Download OTLPEStd.exe from one of the following links and save it to your Desktop: mirror1 or mirror2
    • Download eeepcfr.zip from the following link and save it to your Desktop: the mirror
    • Finally, if you do not have a file archiver like 7-zip or Winrar installed, please download 7-zip from the following link and install it: the mirror
  1. Once you have 7-zip install, decompress OTLPEStd.exe by rightclicking on the folder and choosing the options shown in the picture below. Please use a dedicated folder, for example OTLPE, on your Desktop

  2. Open the folder OTLPEStd which will be created in the same location as OTLPEStd.exe and right-click OTLPE_New_Std.iso. Select 7-Zip and from the submenu select Extract files... and extract the content onto your Desktop in a OTLPE folder:

  3. Please also decompress eeepcfr to your systemroot (usually C:\).
  4. Empty the flash drive you want to install OTLPE on.
  5. Go to C:\eeecpfr and double-click usb_prep8.cmd to launch it.
  6. Press any key when asked to in the black window that opens.
  7. As indicated in the image, make sure you have selected the correct flash drive, before proceeding.
For Drive Label: type in OTLPE.
Under Source Path to built BartPE/WinPE Files click ... and select the folder OTLPE that you created on your Desktop.
    Finally check Enable File Copy.

  8. Click on Start, accept the disclaimers and wait for the program to finish.
Your bootable flash drive should now be ready!

==========

Next do this...

Copy the green bolded into notepad and save it to your flash drive. Name it OTLscript.

netsvcs
msconfig
safebootminimal
safebootnetwork
activex
